This eBook is based on over 20 years of medical and dental research. Dr. Harold Katz wrote this ebook and he is one of the world’s foremost experts on the subject of bad breath or halitosis and is the founder of the California Breath Clinics. It is very easy to read. You will learn about the numerous causes of bad breath and more importantly, the most effective bad breath treatment that is available. You will learn many things that will definitely shock you such as:

-Most major commercial mouthwashes contain more alcohol than a six-pack of beer. This is bad because alcohol will give you a dry mouth which is one of the leading causes of bad breath.

-Most major commercial toothpastes contain a ‘soap’ that dries out your mouth.

-Most commercial oral care products use a minty scent to stop your bad breath. But when the scent goes away in about 15 minutes, your bad breath comes back with a vengeance!

Important Things You Need To Know About Bad Breath

Extensive medical research has determined the cause of bad breath is the anaerobic bacteria that live beneath the surface of your tongue, in the throat, and on tonsils. These bacteria are supposed to be there. Humans need them to function properly. They assist humans in digestion by breaking down proteins found in specific foods, mucus or phlegm, blood, and in diseased or “broken-down” oral tissue. However, under certain conditions, these bacteria start to break down proteins at a very high rate. Proteins are made up of Amino Acids. Two of the Amino Acids (Cysteine and Methionine) are dense with sulfur which is found in bad breath and taste disorders. During this process of breaking down these proteins, they extract sulfur from the amino acids, and produce Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) such as Methyl Mercaptan (which smells like dirty socks) and Hydrogen Sulfide (which smells like rotten eggs).

So What Should You Do To Eliminate Bad Breath?

These bacteria are anaerobic, which means without the presence of oxygen. They breed by the billions deep within the fibers (papillae) of the tongue because in normal circumstances, oxygen cannot penetrate beneath the surface of the tongue. Therefore, eliminating bad breath is as simple as introducing oxygen to the anaerobic environment of the bacteria that produce VSCs. I had really awful breath until I discovered the best bad breath treatment on the market. That treatment is the TheraBreath line of products. The reason why they work so well is that they contain the active ingredient Oxyd-VIII. This ingredient adds oxygen to the oral environment which prevents the anaerobic bacteria from creating the odorous sulfide and Mercaptan compounds that are the cause of halitosis. The end result is the formation of a “Sulfate”, which has no odor or taste.

Bad breath is a condition that I had for a long time. It was embarrassing and wrecked my social life. I used every bad breath treatment that you could name. I eliminated sugar and dairy products from my diet, drank eight glasses of water a day, brushed, flossed, and scraped my tongue on a regular basis, and used all of the major commercial mouthwashes. I also tried gargling with warm salt water, chewing on parsley, wintergreen, cardamom seeds, and eucalyptus leaves, and eating sugarless yogurt. Unfortunately, these bad breath treatments did not work for me. Luckily, a very good friend of mine heard about the problems that I was having with my breath and decided to help me out. So he did some research and found a line of products that would transform my life forever. After taking these products, I was able to talk to people without making them sick to their stomach and embarrassing myself. The products that I took were the TheraBreath line of oral care formulas. This product line includes a mouthwash (oral rinse), toothpaste, breath spray, concentrated powerdrops, ZOX breath mints, oxygenating chewing gum, AktivOxigen tablets, and Nasal Sinus Drops, all designed to attack the root of the problem throughout the day with the utmost of convenience. Some breath-refreshing systems rely solely on mouthwash to fight bad breath. Using these formulas will not only give you clean, fresh breath, but they also contain the best ingredients available to prevent tooth decay, and keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy. I successfully eliminated my bad breath by first using the Therabreath Starter Kit and working my way up from there. You can order a FREE trial of these Therabreath products by clicking here.

7 Reasons Why You Should Use The TheraBreath Line Of Oral Care Formulas

1. Anaerobic sulfur producing bacteria is the cause of bad breath. You can combat anaerobic bacteria with oxygen. Therabreath products contain the active ingredient OXYD-8. It is stabilized and generates oxidizing power as soon as it enters your mouth. This stabilization process allows TheraBreath to have up to a 3 year shelf-life. When any TheraBreath product enters your mouth, a chemical reaction takes place, which allows plenty of active oxygenation to take place each and every time you use it. TheraBreath products will not only eliminate bacterially produced odors, but they will also destroy all types of food odors (garlic, onions, etc.) and even morning breath.

2. TheraBreath toothpaste does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (a harsh detergent). You want to avoid SLS because it will dry out your mouth which will create an optimal environment for the bad breath bacteria to produce volatile sulfur compounds. SLS has also been linked to the production of painful and annoying canker sores. Unfortunately, most commercial toothpaste and mouthwash manufacturers use SLS which is a soap that they put in toothpaste and other cleansers for the sole purpose of making it foam. People are conditioned to believe that more bubbles means that you will be cleaner. However, this is simply not true.

3. Highly concentrated Whole Leaf Aloe Vera has been added to Therabreath toothpaste. Recent research in Asia has shown that Aloe Vera boosts the body’s ability to create collagen. This strengthens weak and swollen gums which allows them to heal more quickly. This is important because bleeding gums provide a protein “food source” to the bacteria that create bad breath.

4. Therabreath toothpaste does not contain Saccharin. Saccharin has been shown to be carcinogenic in lab animals and the state of California has recently published a long term study on its negative effects. For some individuals, Saccharin can also create a bitter aftertaste because of one of the chemical compounds produced during Saccharin’s chemical breakdown.

5. Therabreath toothpaste is actually a gel. Gels are much smaller molecules than pastes which allows them to penetrate deeper below the surface of the tongue. TheraBreath toothpaste also contains premiere tooth polishing and whitening agents which will keep your smile white and brilliant, but without the damaging abrasives. They are animal cruelty-free and are not harmful to the environment.

6. TheraBreath ToothGel also contains Sodium Fluoride which fights decay. Fluoride has also been shown to be an effective de-sensitizing agent. Some of the other anti-halitosis systems do not contain any Fluoride at all. Before you purchase any anti-halitosis product, make sure to ask if it contains Fluoride.

7. Almost all commercial mouthwashes contain alcohol which can make your mouth drier and your breath smell worse. This will negate the benefits of the oxidation process. The TheraBreath Mouthwash (Oral Rinse) does not contain alcohol and was designed to replace all of those products that make your mouth dry.

Bad breath cannot be cured. There is no such thing as a one time bad breath treatment. Because the bacteria are always there (and are part of the natural flora of bacteria that you need to start off the digestive process), you cannot eliminate them permanently. The only way to effectively stop these bacteria from producing sulfur odours is to use an OXYD-8 based product such as Therabreath. No other compounds will perform this action. The bacteria reproduce every 10-12 hours and that is why the treatment must be used throughout the day. After several months, there is a residual effect, whereby the medication has a longer lasting feeling. Some people are then able to get by with performing the procedure only twice daily. However, for the best results, most people perform the procedures three times daily.

If you want to eliminate your bad breath, you can order a FREE Trial of the Therabreath products that helped me get rid of my bad breath.

What Causes Bad Breath Symptoms

Bad breath is caused by Anaerobic Sulfur Producing Bacteria which normally live WITHIN the surface of the tongue and in the throat. These bacteria are supposed to be there, because they assist humans in digestion by breaking down proteins found in specific foods, mucous or phlegm, blood, and in diseased or “broken-down” oral tissue. Under certain conditions, these bacteria start to break down proteins at a very high rate. Proteins are made up of Amino Acids. Two of the Amino Acids (Cysteine and Methionine) are dense with sulfur.

When these “beneficial” bacteria come into contact with these compounds, the odorous and “lousy-tasting” sulfur compounds are released from the back of the tongue and throat, as Hydrogen Sulfide, Methyl Mercaptan, and other odorous and bad tasting compounds. These “problem” compounds are often referred to as volatile sulfur compounds (VSC), where volatile means Vaporous and Effervescent, two adjectives which accurately describe their ability to offend other people instantly.

Let me explain a very important fact about these “bugs”. They are not “bad guys” – they are not infectious. Everyone in the world has the same group of bacteria in their mouth. You cannot “catch” bad breath from someone else – even by kissing. Since they are part of our normal oral flora, you cannot permanently remove them from your mouth – not by tongue scraping, not by antibiotics, and not by rinses which claim to “lift the bacteria off your tongue”. The only scientifically proven and clinically effective method of halting Halitosis is by attacking the bacteria’s ability to produce VSC and by converting the VSC into non-odorous and non-tasting organic salts.

Speaking about bacteria, there is one other fact that you must understand about these bacteria. They are classified as “Anaerobic” – which literally means “Without Oxygen”. They thrive in an environment where Oxygen is NOT present. That is why they DO NOT LIVE ON THE SURFACE OF YOUR TONGUE! They live in between the papillae (fibers) that make up your tongue!

These sulfur compounds are actually by-products of anaerobic bacteria (Fusobacterium and Actinomyces, among others). Everyone needs these bacteria, because they assist the digestion process. But, unfortunately, for some, as yet undetermined reason these particular bacteria are found in higher numbers in those anguished by Bad Breath. (Various theories attribute this to hormonal changes, a history of medications, usually antibiotics or sulfa drugs-which create an imbalance of oral bacteria, or even Genetics-these disorders appear to run in some families.) We do know however, that it seems to be evenly split between men and women.

Conditions under which the problem becomes worse:

Dry Mouth
Although some cases of dry mouth are naturally occurring, most cases are caused by one of these factors; prescription medications (usually prescribed for high blood pressure or depression) antihistamines, and adult beverages, with alcohol in them.

When your mouth is dryer, you have less Saliva. Saliva naturally contains Oxygen, which keeps your mouth healthy and fresh. These bacteria are anaerobic, which simply means that they will thrive and make more sulfur in the presence of little or no oxygen. Thus if you have less Saliva, you have less oxygen, thereby creating an anaerobic environment, perfect for the bacteria to produce more of these odorous and sour/bitter compounds. For people with Dry Mouth, products such as ZOX Breath Fresheners can help greatly.

Post-Nasal Drip
We know that proteins contain amino acids, which in turn contain sulfur compounds (see text above). When a person has a post nasal drip, mucus drains and coats the back of the tongue and throat, exactly where bacteria live (see diagram above). Since mucus is made up of interlinked strands of protein, the bacteria have a field day, breaking down these proteins into odorous and sour tasting sulfur type compounds. Strong Antihistamines don’t help, because the drying effect of the antihistamines also creates a problem. The only method of ending the odor and taste are to use oxygen based oral products. Many people with post nasal drip have claimed great success after using the Nasal-Sinus Drops.

What About The Sinuses?
Many people mistakenly believe that they can get rid of bad breath following sinus surgery. First of all, these anaerobic bacteria cannot live in the sinuses. When someone has a sinus infection, one of the common symptoms are intense sinus headaches, caused by the pressure from the infection in the sinus. If you don’t have these powerful headaches, you probably don’t have a sinus problem. The fact is that once someone has an elevated amount of these anaerobic bacteria, they will create the problem from any protein source, including mucous, phlegm, etc, which drain down the back of your throat into the area where these bacteria live.

High Protein Foods
These bacteria love those proteins, and certain foods are packed with them:

Milk and Cheese and most other dairy products. (The fat content does not matter.) If you are lactose intolerant, do not eat or drink these products! Since your system cannot digest them properly, they are available to the bacteria for an extended period of time. A research article from the Los Angeles Times (November 1996) on lactose intolerance showed that nearly 67% of all Americans can be classified as “Lactose Intolerant”. This is due to the fact that in a diverse population such as we have here, there is a predilection for Asians, Hispanics, and African-Americans to be lactose intolerant.

Fish are high in proteins. As many people eat a high fish diet, logically they make the problem worse.

Coffee with caffeine (and even without) contains high levels of acids which cause the bacteria to reproduce more rapidly and create a bitter taste for many people. Virtually any acidic type of food will do this.

Recommended Products

TheraBreath is a very “user-friendly” anti-halitosis system. It features a mouthwash (oral rinse), toothpaste, breath spray, concentrated powerdrops, ZOX breath mints, oxygenating chewing gum, AktivOxigen tablets, and Nasal Sinus Drops, all designed to attack the root of the problem throughout the day with the utmost of convenience.

There Is A Bad Breath Remedy In Your Kitchen

Many people have difficulties living with halitosis or bad breath. Even if these people are attractive, they will have trouble making friends once others get a whiff of their halitosis. A good bad breath remedy is the only thing that will prevent you from spending the rest of your alone. Fortunately, for these people, there are plenty of bad breath cures that will provide them with the help that they need. However, a bad breath remedy will not appear out of nowhere.

Bad breath occurs because bacteria finds food particles and other residues on your tongue to feast on. Luckily, a natural cure for bad breath can be easily found. Brushing, flossing, and tongue scraping are effective techniques of cleaning up your breath. But you should not get too concerned if you are not getting the necessary results with these methods. This is because in your kitchen you can find many good home remedies for bad breath. These items include many fruits, herbs, and vegetables. They might give you the bad breath solution you are looking for.

Drinking a glass of water can prove to be an effective natural cure for bad breath. The water can wash away the food particles and other residues on your tongue. If you give bacteria less food to feast on, you can lower your chances of having halitosis.

Another benefit of drinking water is that it will increase the flow of saliva. Many people refer to saliva as nature’s mouthwash. The reasons for this are that saliva can flush out food particles and improve the digestion of food. Improving the digestive process is vital because if the food in your stomach remains undigested for too long it will result in digestive halitosis. Undigested food can cause toxins in the form of disgusting gases to accumulate. And these gases can wreck your breath as well as your social life.

Did you know that people have been using successfully citrus fruits as home remedies for bad breath? Everyone already knows that citrus fruits contain Vitamin C which is good for your body’s health. However, citrus fruits also contain acids that will increase saliva production. The more saliva there is, the fresher your breath will smell. This is because the saliva will wash away the bacteria and not allow them to thrive.

You can create a great tasting mouthwash by diluting lemon juice in water. Eliminating digestive halitosis can be done by using a grapefruit seed extract and water concoction.

It has been shown by research that your breath can really stink if you have an insufficient supply of the mineral zinc. This is because zinc can stop the production of volatile sulfur compounds which are capable of making your breath stink. Adding zinc to your diet is a fairly easy bad breath remedy. Zinc can be found in many foods such as seafoods, red meat, almonds, and kidney beans. Zinc supplements are also available for sale.

You can combat the acids in the locations where halitosis-causing bacteria can thrive by using baking soda. A good bad breath remedy is to create a paste out of baking soda and water and then brush your teeth with it. Or you could dilute baking soda in water and use this concoction as a mouthwash.

Do you recall when you were a kid being told that you could cure oral infections by gargling with warm water and salt? Unlike other folk remedies, this is one that is pretty effective as a cure for bad breath. The reason is that salt is capable of combating the bacteria that leads to halitosis.

You can also battle bacteria by using chlorophyll. There is a rich supply of chlorophyll in green herbs such as parsley and wintergreen. You can make your breath smell more pleasant by chewing on these green herbs. Chlorophyll can help increase the flow of saliva.

A good bad breath remedy is not very difficult to find. This is because there are many bad breath cures to choose from in your kitchen. Searching your refrigerator or kitchen cupboards can alleviate the problems you have had with your disgusting breath.

Bad Breath Remedies That Work

The bad taste in your mouth might be a result of bad breath or halitosis. Fortunately, there are many bad breath remedies that can remove this problem. When bacteria feasts on the dead cells on your tongue and the food residue left in your mouth, a white, bitter substance will appear on your tongue. This substance is responsible for the bad taste. While the bacteria is feeding, Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) will be released which will cause your breath to stink.

If you determine that your breath smells like a swamp, then you should eliminate the bacteria that is responsible for the bad odor. Here is a list of bad breath remedies that can reduce the bacteria in your mouth:

1. Follow a proper oral or dental hygiene routine. This should include brushing, flossing, and rinsing on a regular basis. This is a good bad breath remedy but it will not eliminate all of the bacteria in your mouth. For better results, try to include tongue scraping to your daily oral hygiene routine. You should do this because of the tiny hair-like projections on your tongue that can trap food particles. By regularly cleaning your gums, teeth, and tongue, bacteria will not have an opportunity to thrive and destroy your breath.

2. Try to never skip regularly scheduled meals. You want to follow this advice because your stomach is at work all of the time. Even if you do not give your stomach any food to break down, the digestive juices will keep working. This will cause a disgusting odor to come from the inner linings of your stomach. This condition is referred to as digestive halitosis.

3. Following a proper diet can help you combat halitosis. It has already been mentioned that one bad breath remedy would be to not skip any meals. However, this does not mean that you should eat whatever you want. By eating improper foods, you can make your breath smell worse.

Foods that you should cut from your diet include cheeses, greasy foods, deli meats, garlic, onions, and spices. You should also stay away from coffee or soda. Having too many of these items can give you heartburn or acid reflux – and halitosis may also result from this. Acid reflux and halitosis are related because food particles can find themselves in hard-to-reach places where halitosis-causing bacteria are free to feast on them.

4. Some people may find commercial bad breath remedies unappealing. If this is the case, there are home remedies for bad breath that may be more appealing. Many good home remedies for bad breath can be found in teas, herbs, greens, and citrus fruits. They can provide a natural cure for bad breath at a price that anyone can afford.

Greens are well-known for their ability to kill off bacteria and flush out toxins. Because of this many people refer to them as natural deodorizers. Saliva is good at reducing bacteria. Citrus fruits, such as limes, lemons, and oranges, contain acids that can increase saliva production. Odor-causing bacteria can also be reduced by using the antiseptic properties of herbs, such as basil, parsley, and mint. Teas are a good natural cure for bad breath because they contain polyphenols which can reduce the production of VSCs by 30%.

5. Unfortunately, home remedies for bad breath will not be the solution for everybody. There will be people who will require professional help. This will apply to people who have chronic halitosis. There are doctors with the proper knowledge to eliminate this condition. Other people may get halitosis because of a serious medical problem. Medical attention can allow them to combat this condition in its early stages.

Just because you have halitosis it does not mean that you have to put your social life on hold. Using any of the various bad breath remedies may allow you to live without the embarrassment associated with halitosis.

Do you have halitosis or bad breath? If you do, no one would blame you if you looked for a cure for bad breath. Having halitosis can be really embarrassing. Can you imagine how you would feel if you had to talk to someone who had the smell of sweaty socks coming from their mouth? Fortunately, a bad breath solution is not impossible to find. Millions of Americans have the same problem and many have found the proper halitosis treatment. It is much easier to find than trying to find a cure for smoking.

You can get bad breath or halitosis by eating certain foods. Unfortunately, these foods might be some of your favorites. Any foods that are high in protein, such as fish, red meat, beans, and dairy foods, should certainly be avoided. You should also eliminate garlic, onions, and other spicy foods from your diet. These foods contain odor-causing compounds which can enter your lungs and get exhaled. Instead of eating those foods, you should eat more fresh fruits, such as pineapple and papaya, and vegetables, such as celery, parsley, and carrots. This has served as an effective bad breath solution for many people. Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet can also improve your health. These are the reasons why mothers harass their children about eating more fruits and vegetables.

Another good cure for bad breath is drinking a lot of water. The water will wash away any food that may be remaining in your teeth, tongue, or gums. This is important because you do not want them to decay in your mouth because they can leave a really disgusting odor. Another way to remove the food is to practice good oral hygiene. You should try to brush your teeth after every meal. You should also use dental floss or toothpicks to clean the areas between your teeth that are the cause of odor production. Dental floss can eliminate some of the dental plaque on adjacent tooth surfaces. This will lower your chances of getting periodontal disease which has been known to cause halitosis.

Studies have shown that microbial deposits on the back of the tongue is a major contributor to halitosis. So brushing your tongue thoroughly to remove these deposits will also partially cure bad breath. You should be careful when you are doing this because using too much force can cause a gagging reflex.

Your breath can really stink when your mouth gets dry. This can happen when you are fasting. A good bad breath solution would be to chew sugarless gum throughout the day. This will stimulate the saliva flow in your mouth that will help remove any remnants of odor-causing food. However, you should not overdo this because it can lead to joint problems with your jaw. A few minutes of gum chewing at a time is sufficient. To prevent dry mouth, you should also stop drinking alcohol or anything with caffeine. There are also medications, such as antihistamines, high blood pressure medications, and antidepressants, that can result in dry mouth. You should consult your dentist or doctor if you want more information on preventing dry mouth.

Many people use commercial mouthwashes. They gargle it for several seconds in the hopes that it would cure bad breath. Mouthwash will work best if you use it right before going to bed. This is because the flow of saliva is lowest at night which can ruin your breath. By using it at night, remnants of the mouthwash will stay in your mouth longer and have a stronger effect. However, this is a bad breath solution that will only temporarily mask the bad odor for a period no longer than a few hours. At this point, no studies have proven that a mouthwash can serve as a long-term cure for bad breath.

Foods That Are The Causes Of Bad Breath

Of course, everyone knows that Onions and Garlic will create bad breath. But do you know why? It’s because the odorous molecules in onions and garlic are actually sulfur compounds themselves, called Mercaptans. (Sulfur is nature’s way of creating odors.) You’re all familiar with the skunk. Its odor is created as a defense and/or attack mechanism. Skunk odor is made up of sulfur compounds (skatoles, etc.) which are natural sulfur compounds.

Food, if it sits out too long will spoil. That action is due to anaerobic bacteria breaking down proteins in that particular food. In milk, the odor of sour milk is caused by relatives of the bugs that create bad breath, when they break down proteins in milk (and all dairy foods). A reaction takes place where ‘the bad breath bugs’ extract sulfur compounds from the amino acids in these proteins. Specifically, the amino acid Cysteine is converted to Hydrogen Sulfide (the rotten egg smell) and Methionine becomes Methyl Mercaptan (which smells like a cross between old socks and garlic.) The same analogy applies to meat if it sits out too long. There are 4 categories of foods that will result in an increase of sulfur production because these categories have a stimulating affect on the bacteria:

1. Drying Agents
2. Dense Protein Foods
3. Sugars
4. Acids

Drying Agents:
The most common drying agent in food is Alcohol. Alcohol of course is the basis of all “adult” beverages such as Beer, Wine, and Hard liquor. It is also used, unfortunately in mouthwash, where it only makes the problem worse.

Alcohol is a drying agent, known chemically as a desiccant. It is used quite often in laboratories to “dry out” hard to reach areas in test tubes and beakers. The same end result takes place in the oral cavity.

Although cigarettes are not really food, smoking is probably the quickest way to dry out your mouth, with alcohol the second. If you smoke, you are bound to have bad breath!

Dense Protein Foods:
Dairy foods are notorious for creating bad breath. An article in the Los Angeles Times once noted that over 50% of the population in Southern California was Lactose Intolerant which is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, the predominant sugar of milk. With regards to bad breath, it has been found that these people (numbering in the tens of millions) end up with MORE dense proteins available as ‘bad breath fuel‘ for the bacteria than those who have no problem with dairy foods (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.) The end result is a buildup of amino acids, which are easily converted into volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria found within the surface of your tongue and throat.

To a lesser extent, there are people who have the same problem with other dense protein foods such as: Beef, Chicken, Fish.

Another problem, thankfully rare, has to do with people who have an inability to break down certain proteins found in beans. This condition is called TMA (Trimethylaminuria) and is sometimes known as the “Fish Odor Syndrome”, because the odor produced is similar to decaying fish. The odor consists of sulfur compounds, plus nitrogen compounds (amines). People with this condition must abstain from beans and other dense protein foods.

Sugars:
Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of bad breath by chewing on M&Ms? Or what if the cure for bad breath were Hershey Kisses?

That’s what the makers of ALTOIDS would have you believe. Altoids, and other products of the same ilk, are trying to fool the public into believing that a strong “good” taste in your mouth is equivalent to the “goodness” of your breath. It is so anti-science, as to be absurd. If you think about it for a minute, it doesn’t even make sense.

By using concentrated MINT flavorings, your taste buds pick up MINT as a a taste. However, ALTOIDS, contains 2 types of sugar, which are Fuel for the bacteria to reproduce and create more sulfur compounds. In addition, and here’s the frightening part, other bacteria can take the sugars and produce glycan strands, which in turn end up causing thick layers of plaque on your enamel and around your gums. This leads to tooth decay and gum disease – and of course worse Breath than when you started.

But, since you can’t smell your own breath, you just go merrily along with that great strong mint taste in your mouth, while others close to you are backing away – backing away from your increased bad breath, decayed teeth, and gross swollen, bleeding gums!

Stay away from candies, mints, and chewing gum if they contain sugar. As an alternative, you can use TheraBreath Oxygenating Chewing Gum. It releases Oxygen molecules directly in your mouth and also contains the antibacterial agent, Zinc Gluconate (found in many cold medications). In addition, as a sweetening agent we chose Xylitol, which is a natural ANTI-DECAY compound (Not SUGAR!)

Acidic Foods
Acidic foods are a problem as you’ll read below. Some foods you should watch out for are:

Coffee – both decaf and regular have acids (Tea is OK)
Tomato Juice

Citrus Juices:
Orange Juice
Pineapple Juice
Grapefruit Juice

pH is a term used to describe the acidity of the environment. (see table) The oral cavity has a normal pH of 6.5 (7 is neutral) which is in the acid range.

We know that acids make the bacteria reproduce much faster. In order to decrease the production of odorous sulfur compounds, we need to neutralize the acid environment. TheraBreath products are the only ones to be pH balanced in such a manner to do this most effectively. That is why TheraBreath products do not leave a strange aftertaste like other bad breath treatment products.

Common Myths About How To Cure Bad Breath

Having bad breath or halitosis can be a difficult burden to live with. People will have an unflattering view of you if they find out that you have this condition. This can make it very hard to interact with other people. It may destroy your social life and have you looking for tips on how to cure bad breath. If you want to prevent this from happening, you should learn how to get rid of bad breath. Luckily, there are many bad breath remedies that can eliminate this condition for you.

You should try to determine the causes of bad breath before you decide on how you want to get rid of bad breath. However, it can be difficult to find the best possible bad breath cure, including a natural cure for bad breath. This is because there are many myths linked to halitosis. A list of some of the most common myths will be shown below.

Myth 1: There are some people who believe that they can find out if they have halitosis by cupping their hands and breathing into them.

These people are mistaken. This technique will not work because bad breath is only produced while you are talking. Halitosis starts at the back of your throat and will only reveal itself while a person is talking. However, a person will have a difficult time detecting their own bad breath because people are used to the smells coming from their body.

There are some dentists who have a bad breath tester called a halimeter that can determine if your breath stinks. There are also bad breath testers available for purchase. A good alternative would be to ask someone to take a whiff of your breath. Another way you can detect a bad odor is by licking your wrist and smelling it after the saliva dries.

Myth 2: Many have the belief that halitosis is hereditary.

Currently, no one has any proof that there exists a halitosis gene. Therefore, passing halitosis to your children should be the furthest thing from your mind. However, genetic conditions can cause your tongue to trap more odor-causing bacteria than usual.

Myth 3: Some people believe that halitosis starts in the digestive system or stomach.

Contrary to this belief, most cases of halitosis occur because of an accumulation of bacteria near the back of the throat. The bacteria will have a feeding frenzy over any remnants of your meals. This will create volatile sulfur compounds which will make your breath smell disgusting. There are far fewer cases of halitosis that originate from the digestive system. These cases are called digestive halitosis. Research has indicated that problems with digestive enzymes can result in digestive halitosis.

Myth 4: A good way to get rid of bad breath is by using either breath mints or commercial mouthwashes.

Actually, it is impossible to completely get rid of bad breath with either of these bad breath solution products. In reality, they can only temporarily hide the odor. This may shock some people but commercial mouthwashes can cause your breath to stink even more. The cause of this is the alcohol in mouthwashes. Alcohol can cause your mouth to dry out which will enable halitosis-causing bacteria to thrive.

Myth 5: The consumption of foods such as garlic, cauliflower, or onions can lead to chronic halitosis.

Instead, these foods will only cause your breath to smell disgusting temporarily. These foods contain high amounts of sulfur. When your lungs becomes filled with sulfur, your breath will begin to stink.

Actually, the cause of chronic bad breath is the food that remains in your mouth after you are done eating. The type of foods you eat is inconsequential. When bacteria goes on a feeding frenzy on the food residue in your mouth, Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) will be created. VSCs are responsible for giving your breath a bad odor. So if you choose to get rid of bad breath, you should consider practicing better dental hygiene, which includes flossing and brushing, instead of trying to change what you eat.

Myth 6: You can get rid of bad breath by using hydrogen peroxide or probiotics.

There is no medical research that indicates that these bad breath solution products will get rid of bad breath. The reality is that you can harm the tissues in your mouth by rinsing with hydrogen peroxide on a regular basis. Doctors have proven that hydrogen peroxide is toxic to cells. A solution that many doctors recommend is a natural cure for bad breath.

There are many bad breath cures to choose from. You will only be able to determine the best way to get rid of bad breath by separating the facts from the myths. For this reason, you should consult a professional before taking any bad breath treatments even if you decide to take a natural cure for bad breath.

Instructions For An Effective Bad Breath Treatment Routine

These instructions are to be followed 2-3 times a day, usually after breakfast, after lunch and at bed time. These are the exact instructions that are recommended for the most severe cases of halitosis. You may find that you will adapt them to suit your own personal preferences. This is perfectly OK – the goal is to make sure the products are working for you.

Instructions:

Gently scrape your tongue with the rounded edge of the tongue scraper 4-5 strokes, moving the tongue cleaner forward each time. This will help in removing the mucous layer which has been protecting the bacteria living on your tongue. (Do not scrape vigorously to the point of bleeding, but firm enough to remove the mucous layer.)

Rinse off the tongue scraper, then apply a small amount of TheraBreath toothgel to the rounded edge of the tongue scraper and gently scrape another 4-5 strokes. This step applies the powerful oxygenating toothgel to the newly exposed surface of your tongue, thus allowing the oxygenating action to begin. Reach as far back as possible without gagging. DO NOT RINSE, but you can then wash off the tongue scraper after this step.

Place a normal amount of TheraBreath Toothgel on a dry toothbrush and brush for 2-3 minutes. Besides your teeth, also gently brush your tongue, reaching as far back as possible. Make sure to include the roof of your mouth and the inside of your cheeks with this brushing. (The bacteria are extemely sticky and end up almost everywhere in your mouth.) Notice that I keep stressing the word gently – you do not have to brush hard, but make sure that you are thorough. When brushing your teeth, remember to angle the brush towards your gumline, feeling the bristles gently sliding under the gumline. Do not rinse with water after this step. You may, however, spit out any excess saliva and toothgel.

In order to rinse out your mouth properly and in order to attack the bacteria, pour 2 capfuls of TheraBreath Oral Rinse into a clean glass. Rinse the toothgel from your mouth with this rinse. While doing so, “swish” the rinse all over your mouth for 90 seconds in order to cover all the oral surfaces with the concentrated oxygen. It is NOT RECOMMENDED to drink directly from the bottle – this will likely contaminate the rinse.

Take a normal-sized string of dental floss and wet the entire piece with TheraBreath Oral Rinse. Then floss your teeth thoroughly so that the medicated rinse will pass through all of the tooth contacts. This step ensures that the Chlorine Dioxide will attack the bacteria located here.

Take 2 fresh capfuls of the rinse, and gargle for 90 seconds, attempting to get the rinse as far back as possible, without gagging. After gargling, spit out the rinse. (Do not eat or drink anything for 20 minutes following this procedure). If some of the rinse is swallowed, do not be alarmed. It is completely safe if digested (see below)

Blow your nose to clear out any excess mucous from your nasal passages. Put 1-2 of the TheraBreath Nasal-Sinus Drops in each nostril. Allow the drops to run through your sinus passages and down the back of your throat.

Please Read the Following:

For people who can not follow this routine after lunch, if necessary it is recommended that you choose one of either Chewing Gum, Power Drops, or Breath Spray to maintain fresh breath throughout the day.

It is important that you remember not to use any water with these products as they need to remain undiluted.

Also, keep the bottle of oral rinse and the toothgel tube tightly closed and away from the sun when not in use. Never store the mouth rinse in a clear plastic bottle.

*** If a Sour, Bitter, or Salty Taste Persists: In some cases, a difference in taste may occur for the first few days after starting the products. THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY. It’s due to the oxidation of metals in existing dental restorations and the new sensitivity of your new clean taste buds. To overcome this taste, apply baking soda to your toothbrush before placing the toothgel on it. This counteracts any acidity you may have in your mouth.

*** ZOX Breath Lozenges: For those who have a dry mouth or remaining sour/bitter/salty tastes (even after using the oral rinse and toothpaste), you may want to try these lozenges. Not only will they help prevent bad breath when you don’t necessrily have the time to brush and rinse thoroughly, but they trigger the production of excess saliva too. As they melt, the natural ingredients will stimulate the production of Oxygen-Rich Saliva to give you a fresh, clean taste.

*** SWALLOWING THE RINSE: Many people prefer to actual swallow the TheraBreath rinse. While this is perfectly safe, most people prefer to actually swallow the AktivOxigen Rinse (made from the tablets) instead of the mouthwash since it has no flavor. In this case, it is recommended that you use your regular TheraBreath rinse to gargle, but swallowing 1-2 capfuls of the AktivOxigen rinse at the end of your oral routine. The purpose of swallowing the rinse is to reach bacteria that are beyond your ‘Gagging Point’ and therefore have not yet had contact with the medication.

Bad Breath Mints That Actually Work As A Cure For Bad Breath

These bad breath mints will do the following:

Remove Bad Breath and Taste

Stop The Production of Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSC’s)

Stimulate Oxygen-Rich Saliva Flow

Introducing ZOX Breath Fresheners! – Receive Free Ground Shipping On Your Entire Order When You Purchase 6 Rolls of ZOX or a Box of ZOX! Click Here And Use Coupon Code ‘DZoxMint‘

All the “breath candies” that you’re used to seeing in the stores (Altoids, Tic-Tacs, Certs, Ice Breakers, etc.) all commit some kind of fatal mistake in the documented science of creating fresh breath. You see, by now the academic halitosis community knows what causes bad breath and we also know the exact conditions that create an oral environment in your mouth that is MORE LIKELY to produce bad breath.

So wouldn’t you think that a ‘breath mint’ should contain ingredients that make this oral environment less likely to happen? At the very least, there shouldn’t be anything in there that would make that oral environment WORSE.

You can probably see what I’m getting at. The top breath fresheners on the market ALL contain either sugar (which the bad breath bacteria absolutely feast on), or they contain an artificial flavor designed to cover-up rather than prevent bad breath and taste.

And NONE OF THEM Contain Any Clinically Proven, Breath-Refreshing Ingredients!

ZOX Breath Fresheners are the first breath mint designed to remove bad breath instead of mask it!

Now first let me get one thing straight. If you have chronic halitosis, then DON’T expect a breath mint to make the problem go away (although they are an excellent maintenance device if you are already using the TheraBreath system in the morning and night). Most bad breath research has been spent helping people who mostly have had chronic halitosis problems – the type of condition that every time you talk with a person you detect an odor from their breath.

But there is a type of bad breath out there that is common to everyone that has been largely ignored by researchers! It is referred to as situational bad breath. Situational Bad Breath occurs in 99.9% of the world population at one time or another. It happens when someone activates a ‘trigger‘ that causes the oral environment in their mouth to become more likely for the anaerobic bacteria to begin creating the volatile sulfur compounds (VSC’s) that cause bad breath.

In scientific terms, when your mouth encounters one of these triggers, it creates an oral environment that encourages the anaerobic bacteria to begin extracting sulfur compounds from specific amino acids. One amino acid (Cysteine) turns into Hydrogen Sulfide (the rotten-egg smell), and another amino acid (Methionine) becomes Methyl Mercaptan which smells sort of like dirty socks!

So Let’s Take A Real-World Example For A Minute

You get together with some friends one weekend for a bite to eat at a delectable restaurant that serves cheese fondue, with a strawberry daiquiri to cap it off.

You want to make sure you have fresh breath, so after dinner you pop in an Altoid or other such breath candy. STOP!

Although you may have a cinnamon-like taste in your mouth, what you’ve really just done is made your bad breath problem MUCH worse. Let me explain:

During dinner, you introduced two ‘triggers‘ to your mouth (protein and alcohol) that weren’t previously there and made your particular oral environment very eager to begin creating those foul-smelling VSC’s.

Then after dinner, by sucking on that mint, you actually gave those bacteria a food source they LOVE (sugar) to help along the VSC production. Yes, it’s true you TASTE cinnamon or mint, but that’s only a temporary cover up and what people actually SMELL is usually a lot worse!

But now there is ZOX – The First Breath Mint To Actually NEUTRALIZE Bad Breath Production!

ZOX Breath Fresheners were created because almost all the other ‘breath mints‘ on the market DO NOT take into account the principles of halitosis prevention! Most of them are created to TASTE GOOD and that’s about it. ZOX Breath Fresheners were created based on the same clinically proven Zinc/Oxygen/Xylitol principles used by the rest of the TheraBreath product line. It is literally bad breath prevention science packed into a roll of breath mints!

First, ZOX Breath Fresheners have no sugar. ZOX Breath Fresheners use xylitol which is a natural sweetener and has also been proven to have tremendous anti-decay properties.

They also contain zinc gluconate which is known for it’s ability to literally put a “straight-jacket” around those ‘bad-breath producing’ anaerobic bacteria. Zinc Gluconate blocks the receptors on the anaerobic bacteria so that they don’t bind with the amino acids. And if they don’t bind with the amino acids, then they don’t produce VSC’s!

ZOX Breath Fresheners contain no aspartame, no saccharin, and no artificial colors or flavors.

ZOX Breath Fresheners have been specifically created for the sole purpose of preventing bad breath, and removing metallic tastes, NOT for just covering them up. The longer you keep a ZOX in your mouth, the more volatile sulfur compounds it will neutralize.

Plus, each mint is only 5 calories, so you can have as many as you want.

The bottom line is that all-natural ZOX Breath Fresheners are the first and only breath mint to neutralize bad breath based on the clinically proven methods practiced by the California Breath Clinics over the past 10 years.

For control of ‘occasional‘ or ‘situational‘ bad breath there is nothing better than ZOX!

Introducing ZOX! – Receive Free Ground Shipping On Your Entire Order When You Purchase 6 Rolls of ZOX or a Box of ZOX! Click Here And Use Coupon Code ‘DZoxMint‘

Get Rid Of Bad Breath With A Bad Breath Spray – Isn’t Rinsing And Brushing Enough?

If you are like me, then you’re probably thinking “Not another bad breath spray – isn’t rinsing and brushing enough?”

Let me start by saying this – Bad Breath is the odor of the volatile sulfur compounds (VSC’s) that are created from the anaerobic bacteria that live in your mouth, between your teeth, beneath the surface of your tongue, in the back of your throat, and in your tonsils (if they exist).

See the picture to the right…. reaching your mouth, teeth, and front of your tongue in regions D, E, and F is simple – tens of thousands of people do it every day with the TheraBreath Oral Rinses and Toothpastes. But what about the production of odors “farther” back (Regions A, B, and C) – in the very back of your tongue, deep in your throat or in your tonsils?

When you gargle with an oral rinse (mouthwash) – most of the time it can be very difficult to reach way down deep in your throat. Many people find that a ‘Gag Reflex’ kicks in (this happens automatically in most people when something – anything – touches a sensitive area in the back of your throat and tongue). So what can you do? To stop bad breath you MUST neutralize the sulfur compounds that have been created by the anaerobic bacteria that live in deep recesses of your throat and tongue.

In response to this exact concern, a breath spray has been created that addresses this problem. TheraBreath PLUS ‘Extinguisher’ Breath Spray has a unique 7.5cm long, swiveling, extended head which holds down the tongue and sprays the potent Therabreath PLUS formula directly on the “bacterial breeding ground” located in the back of your tongue and throat. It’s the only patented Extra Strength formula that can literally reach the part of your throat and tongue that no other formula can touch!

Many people have said that they’ve always “Felt” something stuck in their throat – and they’ve attributed that uncomfortable feeling to their breath and taste disorder – this spray was designed to solve that problem.

Please remember that for chronic conditions, the only way to prevent the anaerobic bacteria from creating VSC’s is through daily use of an oxygenating line of products such as the TheraBreath Oral Rinse and Toothpaste. For specific instructions on how to do this, see this article Bad Breath Treatment Instructions.

As with all of the Therabreath formulas, the PLUS Extinguisher Spray passed all tests at the San Francisco clinic with flying colors. It’s made those test patients extremely happy, especially since many of the chronic or “lingering” cases involve odor production that may be beyond the reach of just rinsing and tooth brushing (which should still be part of everybody’s daily regimen.)

It’s especially useful for patients with:

Chronic Bad Breath who want extra relief throughout the day

Light, Occasional (Situational) breath or taste disorder, who want instant relief without an overbearing strong minty taste or smell

Dry Mouth sufferers, whose tongue tends to become “extra sticky” as the day goes on

TheraBreath PLUS Extinguisher Spray is small enough to carry in your pocket, purse, or briefcase, so that you can even use it before or after your favorite “garlic” dish.

I hope you can now see how a breath spray (especially one that actually reaches the source of bad breath) can help you regain your confidence.
